Brazil-Chile Bioceanic Corridor will increase competitiveness, says Riedel

The Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul highlights progress in the construction of the route that will connect the state to the Pacific Ocean, facilitating access to Asian markets.
The Bioceanic Corridor project, which will connect Mato Grosso do Sul to the Pacific Ocean, promises to bring a new economic perspective to the region, increasing Brazil's competitiveness in the international market.
In an interview with CNN Money, Eduardo Riedel, governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, detailed the progress and importance of this project for the flow of Brazilian agricultural production.
Riedel highlighted four major investments in logistics infrastructure currently underway in the state:
  • PPPs for highways: widening more than 1,600 kilometers along the north-south and east-west axes, with investments exceeding R$20 billion over the next 10 years.
  • Revival of the western rail network: connection with the São Paulo network to serve the pulp complex.
  • Waterway: starting in Corumbá, to transport Uruguay's growing mineral production.
  • Bioceanic Route: the most ambitious project, which will be completed with the completion of the bridge, scheduled for 2026.

Details of the Bioceanic Corridor

The governor explained that the Bioceanic Route involves not only the construction of the bridge, but also 13 kilometers of access, a project as complex as the bridge itself. Furthermore, paving in Paraguay is underway, led by the Paraguayan federal government.
The completion of this corridor will enable connections with Chilean ports, bringing significant benefits to the export of Brazilian products, especially animal proteins such as chicken, pork, and processed meats.

Riedel emphasized that the route will also facilitate the entry of products from Asian markets.

One of the main benefits will be a 14-day reduction in ship travel time between Chilean ports and Asia, compared to current routes. This time savings will translate into greater competitiveness for Brazilian products in the international market.
