Connecting Paraguay And Brazil: New Road Paves Way For Bioceanic Bridge
with the construction of a new road that will link Route PY15 to the Bioceanic Bridge, Paraguay is making a major push to improve regional integration, and economic connectivity. This would be a critical piece of infrastructure connecting Paraguay and Brazil.
This new access route is part of the broader Bioceanic Road Corridor, a strategic route that spans across the Paraguayan Chaco. This access route is designed to streamline trade between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Once completed, it will serve as a crucial connection point for Paraguay’s exports and regional logistics.
Bioceanic Bridge for boosting regional connectivity
The Bioceanic Bridge itself is nearing completion, with an overall progress of around 80%. On the Paraguayan side, the main tower has reached 100 meters in height, just 25 meters short of its final design. The work continues on installing the suspension cables, and constructing the bridge deck using a segmental method.
Meanwhile, workers have practically finished the main tower on the Brazilian side. Construction crews have already poured and secured major parts of the bridge deck. Final touches on the access viaducts are also in progress.
Urban renewal to transform Carmelo Peralta
In addition to the road connection, the project features key infrastructure upgrades in Carmelo Peralta. The improvements includes the complete reconstruction of its main avenue, and the development of a new coastal strip. The works aim to boost the town’s role in the regional transformation, and improve the quality of urban life for its residents.
Meanwhile, earthworks and embankment compaction are underway in Carmelo Peralta to connect the new road to Route PY15. Once completed, this connection will close a vital gap in Paraguay’s transportation network, boosting access to international markets and enhancing the region’s long-term development potential.
New road project contracted
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), under the leadership of Minister Claudia Centurión, has officially signed a contract to begin work on the project. This plan includes a 3.8-kilometer asphalt road and additional urban improvements in Carmelo Peralta, a town located near the bridge.
The Consorcio Vial de Integración, a joint venture between Tecnoedil S.A. Constructora and LT S.A. has been awarded the construction contract, worth over Gs. 125 billion (around US$16,150,000). Consultora Guaraní S.A. will oversee the project under a separate 14-month supervision agreement valued at Gs. 1.677 billion (around US$215,000).
