OECD: The Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor in South America

Key findings

• The Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor is one of the most advanced strategic infrastructure initiatives in South America, aiming to enhance regional integration, improve trade efficiency and facilitate access to global markets.

• The CBC will generate economic benefits for all participating countries, including improved access to global markets for Chile’s and Argentina's mining sector, a gateway to the Pacific for Brazil's agricultural exports, and the prospect for Paraguay of becoming a logistics hub with increased participation in foreign trade, territorial integration, and job creation.

• To realise the full potential of the corridor, significant investment is needed in both hard and soft infrastructure, including road expansion, railway and waterway integration, port modernisation, harmonised customs procedures, as well as efforts to provide a solid and enduring governance to the initiative.
