President Gabriel Boric presents the Action Plan for the first Bioceanic Road Corridor
This is a highway that will cross four countries with the goal of establishing a trade route linking the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean.
President Gabriel Boric Font, along with ministers and regional authorities, presented the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Bioceanic Road Corridor in Chile. This strategic initiative will connect the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic via a highway crossing Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil.
This corridor, which will stretch over 2,400 kilometers, seeks to consolidate a trade route between these countries, starting from Campo Grande in Brazil and ending in the ports of northern Chile (Antofagasta, Iquique, and Mejillones).
This is a mega-infrastructure project that will strengthen the connection between the member countries, bolstering their economies by generating new commercial and logistical opportunities, and saving time and miles in the transport of exported goods.
2.400
kilómetros considera el corredor que partirá desde Campo Grande en Brasil, hasta los puertos del Norte Grande de Chile.
The High-Level Commission for the Development of the Bioceanic Road Corridor is coordinated by the Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism, Nicolás Grau, and is composed of the Ministers of the Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Public Works, Agriculture, Transportation and Telecommunications, and National Assets. The governors and regional presidential delegates of Antofagasta and Tarapacá also participate.
To complete this corridor, Chile plans to develop 22 strategic road projects:
Road section improvements: 5 replacements, 12 improvements, 1 maintenance project, and 1 expansion.
Project to improve the connection between Route 1 (southern access to Iquique) and Route 16 (easterly access).
Improvements to the El Pampino roundabout and its connections. Improvements to the northern access to the Port of Mejillones are under design.
Evaluation of a new access to the Port of Iquique.
Another important point of this action plan is the development of works that will ease road access to the port facilities through the construction of dry ports. Furthermore, security at our borders will be strengthened, with a new inspection site at the Jama Pass, which includes increased personnel from Carabineros (Police) and PDI (Defense Forces).
Five pillars of the Bioceanic Road Corridor Action Plan
National security: Inspection site near the Jama Pass and a land port to consolidate enforcement.
Enabling infrastructure: 22 projects to modernize road infrastructure and rest stops in Mejillones and San Pedro de Atacama.
Logistics and port capacity: New crane at the Port of Iquique and expansion of the Breakwater at the Port of Antofagasta.
Coordination between countries and borders: Coordinated action on control standards and customs procedures.
Business and private investment opportunities: Through the development of sectors such as mining, agribusiness, and manufacturing.
